Rep. Ami Bera (D-Calif.) bitten by rabid fox in DC...

He'll be fine, as he was immediately treated, but rabies is fatal in almost 100% of untreated cases.

60,000 people a year are exposed to rabies, and many pay over $6,000 plus ER an other bills. Bera is proposing a bill to pay for this.

"Costs should never be a barrier for individuals seeking life-saving treatment.”

My husband and our labradoodle were attacked by a pit bull. Turned out it had not had rabies shots. Our doodle had her rabies shots so just needed the bite punctures and abrasions treated and stitched at the vet ($450) but my husband had to get rabies shots. his Medicare and secondary paid for the higher priced cost of the first treatment at the hospital but he was told to go directly to the pharmacy for the second and third shots. He had to pay for those at $700 a piece. It takes an experience to understand the problem…..

and she said that there are foxes in that area. I was surprised since when I was a resident of Phila for 25 years I never heard of this, maybe in The Poconos but not in cities.
