Related: About this forumnerve problem after oral surgery.
It's been two weeks and hubby's face is still distorted on the side of the surgery. I fear that something went wrong. Our dentist, who is nearby and referred him to the oral surgeon, said he would check him out when I was there getting a filling last week. Hubby was "thinking about it," his way of saying "I'm really scared of the dentist." I told him it was OK to be scared but for chrissake just get it CHECKED OUT!
I was up half the night worried sick about a lot of things and filled with dread. This morning I was better, since the world didn't end.
It's crappy to be old. However, considering the alternative...

(7,456 posts)Challenges aside it is lots more fun being here. Tell husband to see dentist. Also, tell him we are all terrified of them and that includes how much they charge. 🥴

He could be infected which is not going to get better without antibiotics. Oral infections are very serious.
Prolonging dental problems always cost exponentially more in the long run.
Been there, done that. I wish I had someone beat this into my head when my attitude was like your husbands.
I would have saved great amounts of pain and thousands of dollars.
GO SEE A DENTIST IMMEDIATELY!

(65,032 posts)He did take his antibiotic after his surgery, right on time and finished them. I thought that was it. Now his face is puffy and off centered. It's weird. I'm calling the dentist tomorrow and making the appointment for him. I'm hoping he can be squeezed in.

(7,958 posts)...but sometimes it requires two doses. Usually the surgeon or the dentist will tell you that if pain persists to call them immediately.
Once again, you can't mess around with this. It can seriously be life threatening.
Most dentists will see you in an emergency situation the same day. They realize the danger. Make sure you convey the seriousness of the problem on the phone - swelling and pain.
I am an IT consultant who has a dental office as a client. The dentist will come in on weekends for this sort of thing because it can be very serious.
I hope it all works out. Good luck to you both.

(65,032 posts)face is hard to the touch. We'll be on this early tomorrow...I just wish it had happened during the week so we could spring into action faster.
I keep saying to myself that next time I won't handle it the same way. That's fine if it is just me. But my husband has to be brow beaten to get him to go to the dentist in the first place.
I'm exhausted...
