http://jezebel.com/samantha-bee-cannot-handle-the-truth-about-women-rapis-1696972234I'm not usually a Debbie Wasserman Schultz fan, but she fires off a great line in the video. Make sure to watch! Otherwise, make sure you have wine, or a small animal to hug.
Youd think legislation to guarantee women who have been raped full custody of the children born of those rapes would be pretty easy to pass right? Well, as Samantha Bee learned on The Daily Show Wednesday night, not so much.
Bee spoke with Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Shauna Prewitt, an advocate for women to have the right to full custody of their children without going through a legal battle for them, an issue some states have prevented but a startlingly large number of others have not. Wasserman Schultzs Rape Survivor Child Custody Act had bipartisan support, but as Bee frustratingly found out, the original bill didnt pass because it actually spends money $5 million a year for five years, to be specific.

things.
Congress won't fund $25 mill out of the trillions spent in 5 years? Fine, allow proponents to provide funding themselves. I'm dead certain they could raise $25 mill for that. After all, LeVar Burton raised $5 mill for 'Reading Rainbow' in a really short time, even after only asking for 1 mill. I'd certainly chip in, and enjoy thumbing my nose at Congress while doing so.

every one of us, red state and blue state, should be contacting his or her state rep and state senator(s) to look into the Florida law. Better yet, google for the Florida law, send them a copy and ask them to pass it or one even more protective of the rape victim. (I'd add incest. Last thing an incestor needs is parental rights.)
