Sarah Everard. #MeToo Australia. Atlanta. VAWA. OneBillionRising. Each of these exemplifies the
Extent of the effort to eradicate, or excuse, the world-wide violence against women and girls. Why was Sarah walking after dark. The women tempted me. The hysterical heels-dug-in fight against eliminating the "boyfriend loophole" in VAWA. The fact that there is even a fight about needing to reauthorize it. OneBillionRising stands for the ONE IN THREE women (roughly three billion women on the planet). Who will be a victim of sexual/physical violence in her lifetime. ONE IN THREE. And there is CEDAW, the UN effort to eradicate gender violence, to which the US is STILL not signatory (f*** you, conservative male senators!).
What is it going to take to create a world-wide consciousness that women and girls are ?NOT to be beaten, tortured, trafficked, killed? What will finally make all see women and girls as full human beings, not lesser, not things. Not "other"?
In my much younger, very naive days, I thought that education was the answer. But we don't have that time. What is it going to take? Until we have solutions, will it take making every female on the planet a martial arts black belt level? Will knowing that any female a male approaches with intent to harm can bear the livings*** out of him cause these woman-haters so much as a second's pause?
What do you think we can do? What possible answers are there?
(This is not even taking into account the hundreds of pieces of woman-hating anti-choice legislation in this country and all around the world.)
If anybody can post the Sandy and Richard Riccardi YouTube video "?Boys Will Be. . .". I thank you in advance.
