Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) stood up for former Fox News host Tucker Carlson after leaked video showed him making creepy comments to a female staffer, arguing that trans women’s mere existence somehow negates Carlson’s alleged sexual harassment.

Her words are emblematic of how Republicans have decided that calling LGBTQ+ people “groomers” and “pedophiles” should deflect attention from the sexual impropriety people committed by people they like.

I know there are many out there who are supportive, but many simply don't care or aren't really that interested in issues we face. In a microcosm like this, it can be hard to see, but in the wider world, it is very plain. Yes, I see many people who aren't violent homophobes, but too many are attacking us in legal ways, and there are many of us who are having to worry with day-to-day bullshit from doctors, other professionals, and in our daily interactions. It is disheartening. A few years ago, I would have never thought it would be like this.

Hate crimes against LGB people has increased, just like it has with trans, but, just like trans, when it comes to issues of sexual orientation, we are more often used as a weapon against the right, and not given the dignity we deserve.

sure, trans people is their latest and greatest hate these days, but it's nothing special. it's not like they love everyone else. they just gotta get their hate on and minority communities are easier targets because, by definition, there aren't that many to object. divide and conquer, pick off the smallest groups first. same strategy any enemy would use.
