The governor of Alabama on Friday signed into law two controversial bills: one that criminalizes healthcare providers who offer gender-affirming care to transgender youth and another that requires students to use bathrooms that match the gender on their birth certificates.
Kay Ivey, a Republican, said she believed very strongly that if the Good Lord made you a boy, you are a boy, and if he made you a girl, you are a girl.
The anti-gender-affirming care bill, described as the first legislation of its kind in the US, makes it a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison to provide medical care including hormone treatment and puberty blockers to minors.
It also includes bans on gender-affirming surgeries for transgender youth, which are extremely rare, and compels school personnel to disclose to a parent or guardian that a minors perception of his or her gender or sex is inconsistent with the minors sex.

(10,323 posts)Good luck with that.
In the 80s I worked with a young woman who started transitioning while she worked on our team. She hadnt gone thru surgery but had been doing hormone therapy, took a gender-neutral name, started identifying as male, and started using the mens restroom.
One day Sean was late for a meeting and one of the men said Sean was in the bathroom, he could tell because he has the smallest feet of any of the guys. No one blinked an eye or said anything derogatory. It made me happy to be on that team.
Sean moved on once he decided on surgery.

(18,650 posts)As far as the anti-trans assholes are concerned, trans boys ARE girls, trans girls ARE boys, and they all need to start acting like it.
The people who make these laws are sick fucks who dont have a shred of empathy for anyone who doesn't act, believe, or feel the way the sick fucks think they should. The whole thing makes me, for lack of a better word, sick!
Also sad. And angry. Very, very angry.

(1,962 posts)Mind you, they don't think very much of trans males at all.. But notice how when these bills come up and the bullies screech like banshees, it's always trans females they go off about... "Trans people in the women's bathrooms" and "Lia Thomas" and all that shit.
I wish I could say they just lacked empathy.. It's beyond apathy and it's downright hatred at this point. Seems to be getting worse by the day too.

(18,650 posts)I think the subtext is misogyny. On an unconscious level, the idea of someone giving up their male privilege to live as a member of the "inferior" sex is extra horrifying to them. They can't allow themselves to admit that, so that emotion gets channeled into hysteria about "protecting" women and girls. That's my take, anyway.
I think they do hate all trans people. Their reaction to the m2f folks is the most hysterical, but they are equal opportunity haters.

(1,962 posts)A mixture of misogyny along with transphobia when it comes to trans females... Or some ignorant fear on their part that if they encounter a transwoman, voodoo magic or whatever will make them turn into women too.. Who knows with these fools?
Whatever it is, yeah.. It seems when this shit comes up, it's transwomen that are the targets. We don't hear Margarine Traitor Gangreene screaming about "What's the definition of a man?" when it comes to trans males.. Or trans males in the men's room.
The reactions would be hysterical if they weren't so terrifying...
