Mormon Leader Reaffirms Faith's Stance on Same-Sex Marriage

A top leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reaffirmed the faith's opposition to same-sex marriage and "changes that confuse or alter gender" as debates over gender and sexuality reemerge throughout the United States.

Dallin H. Oaks, the second-highest-ranking leader of the faith known widely as the Mormon Church, told thousands of listeners gathered at a conference center at the church's Salt Lake City headquarters that what he called "social and legal pressures" wouldn't compel the church to alter its stances on same-sex marriage or matters of gender identity that he did not specify.

The highest level of salvation, Oaks said, "can only be attained through faithfulness to the covenants of an eternal marriage between a man and a woman. That divine doctrine is why we teach that gender is an essential characteristic of individual pre-mortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose."

Oaks also said church doctrine "opposed changes that confuse or alter gender or homogenize the differences between men and women" and warned that
"confusing gender, distorting marriage, and discouraging childbearing" was the devil's work.

n/t

BTW as straight white guy I have found the solution to "the gay problem" and that is
I don't have sex with men and if other people want to have consensual sex with other
people I really don't care.

Mormons are the ones with three levels of heaven and no real hell (to go to hell you have to be male, know for a fact [seen in person] Jesus and deny him).

5. Why is sexual abuse so common in the Mormon Church?

...
There are many reasons for the prevalence of sexual abuse within the Mormon Church. Most often, it’s a result of favoring the Church’s reputation, the way laws are written, and the values that are impressed upon LDS members.
...
In Utah, for example, there is an exemption for religious leaders to report abuse or neglect. The law currently reads:

“…When any individual, including an individual licensed under Title 58, Chapter 31b, Nurse Practice Act, or Title 58, Chapter 67, Utah Medical Practice Act, has reason to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or neglect, or observes a child being subjected to conditions or circumstances that would reasonably result in abuse or neglect, that individual shall immediately report the alleged abuse or neglect to the nearest peace officer, law enforcement agency, or office of the division.

“…the notification requirement described in Subsection (1)(a) does not apply to a member of the clergy, with regard to any confession made to the member of the clergy while functioning in the ministerial capacity of the member of the clergy and without the consent of the individual making the confession"
...
Even more disturbing, while the Mormon Church maintains a 24-hour hotline for leadership to report abuse and learn their local laws around contacting authorities, the Church has been accused of using the hotline to silence victims instead.

Sex between consenting adults vs sex forced upon a child. The Mormon church apparently believes one of these urgently requires its attention.

Their business is eternal truths. If they’re wrong about lgbtq lives, could they be wrong about anything else? Like maybe the garden of Eden wasn’t in Missouri?

Such a dilemma!
