Dave Chappelle uses anti-gay slur & makes jokes about trans controversy during new comedy set

While comedian Dave Chappelle promised to stop punching down on the LGBTQ community, saying he would stop making jokes about transgender people at the end of a comedy special full of transphobic jokes, during a performance at Madison Square Garden he hedged his words.

And then proceeded to use an anti-gay slur and make jokes about his relationship with the trans community and pronouns.

In The Closer, Chapelle announced he is a transgender exclusionary radical feminist (TERF) before launching into a derogatory diatribe about transgender women’s genitals.

The co-CEO of the company, Ted Sarandos, refused to remove the special and claimed at the time that it does not cross any lines and that Chapelle is simply too popular to remove. Sarandos has since expressed regret for the way he handled the situation.

Dave Chappelle tells high schoolers “I’m better than you” when they call him a “childish bigot”

Transphobic comedian Dave Chappelle recently spoke at his high school alma mater, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington DC. While he was there, at least one student called him “childish” and a “bigot.” He responded by telling the students, ” I’m better than all of you.”

Chappelle spoke at the high school following the outcry against his transphobic Netflix comedy stand-up special, The Closer. In it, Chapelle announces that he’s a transgender exclusionary radical feminist (TERF) and launched into a derogatory diatribe about transgender women’s genitals.

About 580 students packed into the school’s auditorium to talk with the comedian for about an hour, Politico reported. One student called Chappelle a “bigot,” adding, “I’m 16 and I think you’re childish, you handled [criticism over your transphobic remarks] like a child.”

Chappelle replied, “With all due respect, I don’t believe you could make one of the decisions I have to make on a given day.” Students said that Chappelle belittled their questions and comments by laughing at them and responding with jokes.

Chappelle later told the students, “I’m better than every instrumentalist, artist, no matter what art you do in this school, right now, I’m better than all of you.” He added that some of the students would be “household names” one day.

Dave Chappelle says he'll 'step aside' from school honor if critics donate more than his supporters: 'Talk is cheap'

Dave Chappelle is asking those who object to his former high school naming a theater after him to speak up with their checkbooks.

The comedian, 48, took to social media on Saturday to issue an ultimatum to both followers and detractors in the wake of backlash over his comments about the trans community in his Netflix special The Closer. In an Instagram post that featured a series of photos of Chappelle visiting the acclaimed Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Chappelle asked people to make donations to the institution nothing whether they object to or are in favor of school's theater being named after him.

"Talk is cheap (unless I do it)," he kicked off the post, which explained that while "having the theater named after me is a great honor," it wasn't his idea. Instead, he said it was at the request of the school's founder, Peggy Cooper Cafritz, and he intends to "honor that request" in April. But then, Chappelle explained the unique twist to his statement.

"If you object to my receiving this honor, I urge you to donate to the school, noting your objection. If you are in favor of the theater being named 'Chappelle,' I urge you to donate to the school, noting your approval." he wrote in text over the photo post.

(My apologies for posting this reply to both Duncan's and BTA's posts, but, I felt this response was needed on both threads. Also, my apologies on the length of this post, but, I felt there was a lot that needed to be said here. This also took me some time to think and write up because I really wanted to say something far deeper than "Fuck Chappelle". While that's accurate, it's also hardly meaningful...)

At this point, I think it's sadly obvious that Chappelle isn't going to stop. To the contrary, he's only going to get worse. He has decided this is the hill he's going to die on. Why, I don't know. If this ever was comedy (it was not), it's now blatant hatred for the LGBTQ community, especially the trans community. I don't know if he tried to pull a Trump on some woman, only to get a surprise... Whatever it is, this whole shitshow continues to go from bad to worse, as Chappelle is only getting louder and meaner.

There's so much to touch on in these articles - both things that have been quoted in the OP's, and things that haven't. I know I'm preaching to the choir by touching on this in the LGBT group, but, I can only hope that someone who is sitting on the fence might read this and truly realize what the hell has been going on for nearly two months now.

About the only thing that is heartwarming from this fiasco is the number of students and parents who have lashed out, saying Chappelle played the victim card, was arrogant, rude, self-entitled, and immature, while having very strong words over the way he spoke to the students, his bigotry, and even dropping an n-bomb.

1. At the beginning of this assembly from hell, Chappelle asked if anyone had any issues to stand up and speak up. A few students did. One of them was transgender. Chappelle was rude, dismissive, and went out of his way to misgender the trans student. Once again, to anyone out there thinking "The Closer" was a comedy special: Tell me how disrespecting, punching down on vulnerable people and bigotry is "funny"? He has done nothing but dehumanize vulnerable people for some time now, and has no problem doing it to their faces. Just as he misgendered Daphne Dorman repeatedly during his "touching tribute", he has now done so directly to a trans teen.

2. "I'm better than everyone here." No you're not. Period. Get over it, and get the fuck over yourself. No one - I don't fucking care how rich or famous or powerful you are, is "better" than anyone else. Now, there is such a thing as being worse than everyone else. Guess what? That's by choice.

TFG wasn't born better or worse than anyone else. He is, however, worse than most people because he has spent 75 years being a corrupt MF'er, a bully, a bigot, a cheat... I could type 1,000 more words just to describe him, but we all know the drill by now.

Just because those in your captive audience are teenagers still attending class, and not famous "comedians", doesn't make them inferior to you. On the contrary, them speaking up for others, and having compassion, makes them better people than you. Why? Because they chose to do the right thing and care about others, instead of being some sick sadist who gets off on inflicting pain upon others for being different.

3. "Your comedy kills!" "[Black people] are killed every day." Except, of course, that's not really what was said.

First of all, talk about rude, dismissive and... what? At "best", Chappelle doesn't care what harm his words cause people. At worst, he enjoys it. I'm convinced at this point that his stupid trademark shit-eating smile would get even bigger if he found out his hate speech motivated someone to kill a trans person.

But the second problem with that exchange is what exactly Chappelle said. He did not say "black people"... He dropped an n-bomb. During a high school assembly. Because of the quotes being edited in every article I read, I don't know if he used the variation that ends with "a", or "er". Just that the first syllable started with an "N" and rhymes with dig.

I don't care if he himself is black, and I'm not. I can tell you I would've been absolutely disgusted to be sitting there and hear that word come out of his mouth. A number of parents were indeed furious about finding out he used that word during a school assembly.

You stay classy, Chappelle.

4. "I don’t believe you could make one of the decisions I have to make on a given day." Horse hockey. You couldn't make the decisions that LGBTQ's do on a given day, you self-entitled jackass. Imagine being a part of the spectrum/community and living in a red state, or even a red area in a blue state. Imagine the fear of being fired from your job, or being assaulted by a bigot. But that's right. You don't get it. You never will. That'd require you to think about someone besides yourself for the first time in your pathetic life.

Meanwhile, I have nothing but applause for the students who don't make the same decisions he does on a given day - by choosing compassion instead of hate.

Chappelle's spokesidiot Carla Sims is every bit as bad as Chappelle, if not worse. Because she has said at least two things that elevate the blood pressure and come across as absolutely disgusting.

5. "Chappelle said these kids deserve an F for forgiveness." How about Chappelle and Sims deserve a FUB, for "fuck you both!"? Forgiveness requires little things like an apology, a display of contrition, and an effort to change your behavior. Doubling, tripling and quadrupling down on abuse, hatred and bigotry is not change. Refusing to apologize is... obviously the opposite of apologizing. This bully masquerading as a comedian and his spokesidiot don't get it. He isn't going to get forgiveness, nor does he deserve it, when his idea of "contrition" is to keep doing the same vile shit - just louder and meaner.

But what else would one expect from such a fucking snowflake? Chappelle at this point reminds me of every other conservative bigot I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They think they can say whatever they want, do whatever they want, hurt whoever they want, and we're supposed to cheer and kiss their asses. When we don't, suddenly they're the victim, they're the one who was hurt, and everyone is "out to get them." No. You're not entitled to having your ass kissed when you say and do the wrong things. No. You're not the victim here. And finally, yes. Maybe people do hate you. But you're fucked in the head if you think you can punch people in the face, and expect them to reply with "I love you!"

I repeat: Get the hell over yourself, Chappelle.

Ohhh, and, yes. I called him a conservative. Why not? He was actually pro-Trump until it came out how much Fat Q*bert hates black people. He thought The Biggest Loser would be good for his career because he'd end all the "PC shit." He had no problem with grabbing women or "build the wall" or any of the other vile shit that Jabba the Trump said or did until he realized Drumpf didn't think very much of people like him. Then, suddenly, we have a problem. So, gee.. What a shock that his views on LGBTQ's would fit right in on Fux or Newsless or whatever extreme right hate agency.

6. "Give them some space to grow"/"They are going to say things that are immature." I'd say they're growing up just fine if they have the courage to speak up and stand up to you. I'd say they're saying things that are quite mature if they're going to call you out and speak out for the hurt you're causing.

If there is anyone here that is immature, it's the 48 year old self-entitled bullying man-child who gets his jollies off on punching down on vulnerable people. These "immature" students aren't collecting millions of dollars recording comedy specials filled with hatred for LGBTQ's, Jewish people, and anyone they don't like because how dare they be different.

As icymist said on one of the two threads: His "jokes" sound like something Mike Huckabee would say. This. So much this. When your idea of "humor" sounds like something Huckabee, or Joe Rogan, or Fucker Carlson, or TFG would say, it's not humor. Those aren't jokes. You know why? Because not only is cruelty not humor, but, those right-wing Nazis have no sense of humor. They only laugh or smile when they're stealing something or hurting someone. That isn't humor. That's sadism.

Want to see someone who needs to grow up? Look in the mirror, Chappelle.

7 (and last, I promise). The Duke Ellington School of the Arts deserves their fair share of shame in this, too. To give him a platform to speak to their students like this is disgusting. I don't know who the hell thought it was a good idea to begin with. But to let him keep going on? I don't give a damn if he donated eleventy billion dollars to the school over the years... All it would've taken was his rude attitude toward the students at the beginning for me to cut off his mic and tell him "Leave this campus." I don't give a damn if you're the "great" Dave Chappelle.. I wouldn't tolerate him talking to or treating my students like that.

I can tell you had I been a student? I would've said things that would've gotten me suspended, if not expelled. Had I been a student and she were still alive, my mother would've been irate at the whole assembly, and would've had my back on giving him a piece of my mind.

I've lost a great deal of respect for your high school. Your failure to stand up for your students while giving this bully a microphone and letting him spew his diarrhea of the mouth is absolutely shameful.

I'm beyond tired of the hatred Chapelle continues to spew. I'm beyond tired of the pain he's causing people. There's enough pain and hurt and suffering in the world - especially the last few years - without this shit. We in the LGBTQ community did nothing to this asshole.

You're so great, Chappelle? Then prove it. Be best. I'd say be better, but Melanie has forever tainted that phrase. So, be best. Quit hurting people so you and bullies like you can laugh at our expense.

In closing... TL;DR: FUCK CHAPPELLE.
