Creative Speculation
Related: About this forumThe saddest speculation I have had in the last few months..WARNING: This is very sad...!!!
Well You were warned!speculation:...What would life be like, since this, January, if Hillary Clinton were the President of the
United States of America....?
I think that there would be no more than 10,000 deaths..Perhaps less than 5000....maybe less than that. Her whole attitude would have been different from the time the first case was reported...

(10,599 posts)That's pretty staggering.
I'm not sure it would have been that low. Don't forget that the Idiot Drumpf voter would still be out there, they just wouldn't have a cult leader to follow, but I would not put it past the repub party to still have been anti-mask even if Hillary were President, and saying to do the opposite.
Own the Libs would still be a thing.

the death toll could really be around 10,000. Almost everyone would be wearing a mask

(10,599 posts)People would be back to work. Schools would be open, like in other countries around the world.
We would be patiently waiting on a Vaccine, and looking forward to a true normal by next summer.
Instead we're gasping for air, and mourning our dead.

(7,715 posts)I am hoping that the US has learned its lessons about fascist leaders, much like Germany or Japan after WW II, and how much destruction they can wreak. We will see on November 3, and I am hopeful.
That being said, that would just be a start. There then needs to be a complete DeNazification of the US, with massive investigations into corruption, foreign interference with our country and any people who are citizens of and/or resident in the US, the complete failure of the US Justice Department, the politicization of federal departments/agencies, and awful unqualified judicial nominees being ramrodded through the confirmation process with no investigation. This CANNOT be swept under the rug.
Once all of this is exposed, many will come around except fir the normal US lunatic fringe (approximately 30%), who can go back to their conspiracy theories and paranoid lives.

(38,726 posts)When Nixon resigned, there were 27% who thought that he was innocent and should have stayed in
office as President of the United States.
This is even though there was solid proof that Nixon had lied about every aspect of Watergate, including
getting rid of the special prosecutor. Further, by somehow erasing the tapes, Nixon destroyed evidence
which of course was unlawful, as well as breaking the law in many other ways. Many of his closest
aids including John Dean and the Attorney General spent time in jail. ...Still, among all the lies,
and illegal acts....27% still thought he was innocent and should have stayed in the office.

(10,599 posts)I think the presence of Faux News, and the media and internet in general, has increased the access for lunatics who gain viewers, and put crazy things in their heads.
Given that, I think it's closer to 1/3rd, or 33%. Add in the wealthy who are just in it for money and tax cuts, and you get to Drumpf's true base of around 38%.

(15,143 posts)The Crazification Factor (alternatively known as the Keyes constant) is a neologism coined in 2005 by blogger John Rogers to refer to the portion of the electorate comprising the nuttiest of the wingnuts and the batshit crazy, or at least the most diehard partisans.
Rogers was writing of the 2004 Senate election in Illinois:
Another factor in Obamas favor at the time that Rogers didn't mention is that the original Republican candidate, Jack Ryan, had been forced to suspend his candidacy after his divorce and custody records were released to the press, revealing that he had taken his former wife, actress Jeri Ryan, to various sex clubs (including, in at least one case, a bondage club) and tried to have her perform sex acts on him out in the open. Keyes was the GOPs last-minute replacement on the ticket after the sordid details of Ryans divorce came out. So not only was it a normal candidate running against a clearly crazy opponent, but the crazy guy also had the baggage of the last guys sex scandal following him, and had been drafted into the campaign with little time to prepare.
