How Israel destroyed Gaza’s ability to feed itself
Satellite images .. show that more than half (60 percent) of Gaza's farmland, crucial for feeding the war-ravaged territory’s hungry population, has been damaged or destroyed by Israeli attacks.

At the start of summer, Gaza's fields are usually bursting with ripening crops and fruits of all colours, scents and sizes.

But, nearly nine months into Israel’s war on Gaza, abundant harvests have given way to devastation and a dire humanitarian crisis.

A UN report says 96 percent of Gaza’s population is food insecure and one in five Palestinians, or about 495,000 people, is facing starvation.........................

North Gaza

In Beit Lahiya, once known for plump, juicy strawberries that locals fondly called "red gold", Israeli bulldozers and heavy machinery have systematically razed fields, reducing them to dirt.

Before the war, Gaza's strawberry industry employed thousands of people. Seeding and planting began in September, with harvesting from December through March.....................

This is not just bomb damage. The IDF has been bulldozing crops and farmland for months now. Lonestarblue Jul 2024 #2

I know others disagree, but to me this is deliberate and supports the Israeli right-wing hawks who have said the goal is the removal of all Palestinians from Gaza, one way or another. Minister Smotrich said they might allow a few thousand Palestinians to live in Gaza. Presumably, he thinks the other 2 million will either be murdered or forced to the Negev desert, which has been mentioned in the past, to starve there for lack of water.

You destroy the enemy's food and water supplies, to weaken them.

Indiscriminate but effective.

But then, Israel has effectively declared everyone in Gaza as legitimate targets. They are all HAMAS, or HAMAS sympathisers, or HAMAS supporters, or future HAMAS fighters, right?
All the women, children, the men of any age, all seen as legitimate targets for violent death or slow death through starvation, lack of medical care, etc.

World Media . . . mostly crickets - out of the news cycle, it's become 'normalised'.
No room, there was an election in the UK, storms in the Carribean - all needs reporting instead!

The question isn't whether this is genocide or not, because it clearly is - the question is . . . does the rest of the world have the guts to stop Bibi now, and hold him accountable later?
