Neo-Nazi Curious and Champions of Israel: Diaspora Minister Chikli Heads to Spain's Far-right Convention

Amichai Chikli's official title is Minister of Diaspora Affairs and the Struggle Against Antisemitism (he added the second designation when he accepted the position in January of last year). He is officially in charge of strengthening Israel's relationship to Jewish communities worldwide.

But, since October 7 and the start of the Gaza war, Chikli has intensified his already substantial investment in cozying up to far-right leaders across Europe, including securing himself a permanent spot on their convention circuit.

Over the two-day event, Chikli will share the stage with ultra-conservatives like Argentinian President and Israel advocate Javier Milei; Jose Antonio Kast, the Catholic leader of Chile's Republican Party whose father has been linked to the Nazi Party; and France's Marine Le Pen, a four-time presidential candidate with political and financial ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin, and whose father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, has multiple convictions for Holocaust denial.

The next day, MKs Amit Halevi and Ohad Tal appeared alongside U.S. Representative Paul Gosar who has been plagued by accusations of blatant antisemitism. Chikli shared his stage time with Tom Van Grieken, President of Belgium's Vlaams Belang, a party with long-standing ties to both European neo-Nazis and Israel's Likud.

The settlers especially are little more than thugs. This is not the same country most of us grew up supporting. It has morphed into a brutal regime willing to annihilate anything or anyone standing in its way to achieving total control of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank.

The Post has an article today showing how Israel has created a corridor separating Gaza north to south in preparation for a military occupation of Gaza. Given how Israel has treated Palestinians as virtual prisoners in the past, this action does not bode well for their future.

“Israeli troops are fortifying a strategic corridor that carves Gaza in two, building bases, taking over civilian structures and razing homes, according to satellite imagery and other visual evidence — an effort that military analysts and Israeli experts say is part of a large-scale project to reshape the Strip and entrench the Israeli military presence there.”

snip

“Israel insists it does not intend to permanently reoccupy Gaza, which its troops controlled for 38 years until withdrawing in 2005. But the construction of roads, outposts and buffer zones in recent months points to an expanding role for Israel’s military as alternative visions for postwar Gaza falter.”

Has it occurred to anyone that most of the left-wing leaders and the Global South leaders, and a bunch of autocratic regimes are not particularly interested in "strengthening Israel's relationship to Jewish communities"? In fact, their overt hostility to what Chickli is officially in charge of would make their his efforts to cozy up to them virtually impossible wouldn't it?

So why is it such a big surprise that Chickli is not attempting to go where his presence is not welcome or wanted?
