GENEVA, Dec 1 (Reuters) - The United Nations deplored the resumption of conflict in Gaza on Friday, describing the hostilities as "catastrophic" and urging parties to bring about a lasting ceasefire.
Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the United Nations humanitarian office in Geneva, said the resumption of hostilities meant "hell on Earth has returned to Gaza".
Israeli warplanes resumed bombing Gaza, sending Palestinian civilians fleeing for shelter, after a week-old truce ran out with no deal to extend it.

(19,528 posts)Did the UN condemn the Hamas attack (while the cease fire was still in effect) at a Jerusalem bus stop that killed 3 and wounded several?
Did the UN address media reports that Hamas is refusing to release any more women hostages because they are holding them to be raped?
Has any UN team visited the hostages still in Hamas hands?

Hamas leadership said that their brutal attack was a dress rehearsal and it would be repeated on larger scales.

Somebody said something insightful to me today. "If not for the intense bombing and fighting, do you really think that Hamas would have released any of the captives?"
