Israel Kills 13, Including Women & Children, in Airstrikes Targeting Militant Leaders in Gaza

Israel launched surprise airstrikes in Gaza overnight, targeting three commanders of the Islamic Jihad militant group, who were assassinated in their homes. The attacks killed a total of 13 people, including the wives and children of the men. The Israeli attack broke a ceasefire that had been reached last week after a spike in violence following the death of Palestinian prisoner Khader Adnan in Israeli custody. “As the occupying power, Israel has the obligation to protect the civilian population,” says Phyllis Bennis, author and fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies. “Instead, we’re seeing the expansion of an apartheid regime, and one which is prepared to use violence at extraordinary levels without a moment’s hesitation.”

It is both false and prejudicious.

ART. 5. of the Fourth Geneva Convention states:
— Where, in the territory of a Party to the conflict, the latter is satisfied that an individual protected person is definitely suspected of or engaged in activities hostile to the security of the State, such individual person shall not be entitled to claim such rights and privileges under the present Convention as would, if exercised in the favour of such individual person, be prejudicial to the security of such State

This clearly strips the three PIJ operatives killed in the raid of any protections by Israel. and makes them fair targets.

ART. 28. an 29 of the Convention state
ART. 28. — The presence of a protected person may not be used to render certain points or areas immune from military operations.
ART. 29. — The Party to the conflict in whose hands protected persons may be, is responsible for the treatment accorded to them by its agents, irrespective of any individual responsibility which may be incurred

This clearly places the responsibility to protect on PIJ, which they, not Israel, failed to do.

And her "Instead, we’re seeing the expansion of an apartheid regime, and one which is prepared to use violence at extraordinary levels without a moment’s hesitation.” is delusional and borderline antisemitic on its face, especially considering how far apart it is from the topics she is commenting on.

The articles place full responsibility for their deaths on PIJ, not Israel.

Ben-Gvir threatens to quit Israeli government over response to Gaza rockets

Otzma Yehudit to boycott Knesset votes as tensions with Likud heat up • Likud: If Netanyahu's decisions are unacceptable to Ben-Gvir, he can leave gov't

The Otzma Yehudit Party will boycott Knesset votes until Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu implements a “fully right-wing policy” and enables its minister to influence the state’s national security policy, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said Wednesday.

“If the prime minister does not want a right-wing government, he is welcome to fire me,” he said in a press statement while in Sderot. “We will not attend votes in the Knesset until the prime minister internalizes and understands that we want a fully right-wing government, and that we are an inseparable part of the discussions and part of the implementation of the Israeli government’s security policy.”

Ben-Gvir’s remarks indicate a spiraling rift in the coalition between Otzma Yehudit and the Likud. Tension began to rise on Tuesday, when Ben-Gvir demanded to attend the prime minister’s security situation assessment after dozens of rockets were fired from Gaza, but he was not invited.

Netanyahu’s poll numbers bounce back after Gaza campaign, surveys show

Prime minister pulls back in front of Gantz as most suitable for job, and Likud party — but not coalition — sees boost after sinking for weeks amid judicial overhaul protests

Israel’s five-day offensive in the Gaza Strip has reversed weeks of slipping popularity ratings for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party, a series of lightning polls indicated Sunday.

Surveys released Sunday evening by Channel 12 news, Channel 13 news and the Kan public broadcaster showed Likud faring better than in a string of recent polls, although the party and its current coalition partners would still fall short of the support needed to form a government were an election held today, according to the surveys.
