Netanyahu Offers Post of Israels Consul General in New York to Proud Racist May Golan

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has offered the soon-to-be vacant position of Israeli consul general in New York to controversial Likud lawmaker May Golan.
Golan, who is considered one of the most ardent supporters of Justice Minister Yariv Levin and his planned judicial shakeup, would take over from Asaf Zamir, who resigned last month after warning U.S. Jewish donors against the governments attempts to overhaul the judiciary.
If Golan accepts the offer, she will have to resign from the Knesset, which would be seen as a possible setback for Levins camp and would come at a very sensitive time with the prime minister set to decide on the future of the reform and perhaps compromise on some of its elements.

Israels prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has nominated a far-right politician who once boasted that she is proud to be a racist as his countrys top diplomat in New York.
The appointment of May Golan was swiftly denounced by Israeli and American former diplomats, and the head of the largest Jewish denomination in the US, as an affront to the US and damaging for Israel.
A group of former Israeli ambassadors said they were shocked by the move.
Golans appointment is outrageous as she is a racist and divisive figure, which is the exact opposite from what Israel needs in such a critical place, they said.
