Ukraine Strikes Russia With U.S. Made Missiles For The First Time
For the first time since the start of Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine has used U.S. made missiles to target Russian territory, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. This change in the war posture comes after President Biden gave Ukraine the green light to use U.S. made long range missiles to target inside Russian territory earlier this week. It also comes on the 1,000th day of the war.
According to reports, the missiles targeted a region in Bryansk and were shot down with no casualties being reported on the Russian side. Following President Biden's green light, President Zelensky posted a video noting that the missiles, not any policies, will speak for themselves. It appears as though that's exactly what has happened today.
The decision by President Biden to change the posture in this conflict came at a critical time for Ukraine. In recent weeks, Russia has begun to train North Korean soldiers with the intention of putting them on the front line in the battlefield. Many of these North Korean soldiers had been training at sites within the range of the U.S. made long range missiles.
As a result, by giving Ukraine the ability to strike into Russia, President Biden essentially allowed Ukraine to defensively strike training sites to limit the impact the new North Korean troops had on the conflict. In response to North Korean troops being moved into Russia, the State Department stated that it was a major escalation by Russia, bringing in an Asian military to a conflict inside Europe.
