Indonesia braces for China-US conflict - DW News

As the power struggle between China and the US intensifies across Asia, Indonesia faces dramatic threats ranging from Chinese regional domination to a Cold War that could turn hot. At the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, one of Indonesia’s top foreign policy analysts Dewi Fortuna Anwar set out Indonesia’s non-aligned world view to DW’s Richard Walker, explaining how Jakarta has pushed back against Chinese claims in the contested waters around the South China Sea, Indonesia’s response to China’s rejection of international arbitration, and why it is seeking closer military ties with the US at the same time as nurturing strong economic relations with China. And she sets out Jakarta’s fears of being dragged into proxy conflicts as Washington and Beijing limber up for generational battle for global power.
