(11,304 posts)so dang tired I didn't want to fix anything to eat. I didn't even want to go to the bathroom. All I did was drink water. That's all I wanted. I lost about 12 pds. Then again at the beginning the doctors office called me and told me to come right away to the hospital. I had to have a blood transfusion. I stayed over night. That was about 5 yrs ago. I will always have problems with Vit D dificencies. I just get it check every so often. You do the same. But you sure aren't alone. Medications will help you.

Best of luck to you!

(16,866 posts)I'm glad you told me. I thought I was going to have people asking why/how/what, not thinking anyone would really be going through it, too!

(10,209 posts)is that I have Ehlers-Danlos and my body tends to fall apart rather easily, more so the older I get. I expect I will die as my grandfather and mother did, when they were around age 70, who also had EDS - of my blood vessels finally bursting completely apart.

(117,207 posts)I'm also on the mega-dosages of vitamin D. The bones in my calves and feet start aching when I let the levels drop too low.
Good luck and get some sunlight!

(16,866 posts)I do use fortified soy milk for cooking and hot chocolate, but that's about the extent. Working 3rd shift I rarely get out during the day, so seldom see that evil, evil sun.

(10,170 posts)It does not usually take much to get what you need. I work a lot inside in a darkish room for 30 plus years. I take drops of D on occasion. You just reminded me to take more.
Hope this resolves quickly for you.

I'm very nearly a vampire after 25 years on 3rd. Direct sunlight could cause me to spontaneously combust or something.

(16,327 posts)and the freaky thing is I work out in the sun! How the heck does THAT happen? Doc put me on mega D for 3 months, got my numbers up for a bit but they crept back down over time. Welcome to the Low D Club.

(49,212 posts)I've heard mixed things about whether there's any practical difference between D2 and D3, but if I had a deficiency and my doctor felt strongly about one form over the other or the research was pointing me in that direction I'd try that.
I don't get much sun either. I burn just thinking about it.

(53,661 posts)I am definitely stealing that picture and calling it by that name. The expression I heard used down south was 'GawdDamnedHotSun!' It was so humid, when the sun hit the skin, it felt like being roasted on a fire. You get used to it, though.
Some days though, I 'just closed my eyes and thought of England' (don't go there, Will) and read some story by Dickens around how the damp cold went through the clothes to the bone. Actually, it helped a lot, though I was drenched with sweat.
Some people get hysterical when they get that hot, so I suggested to some guys to remember when they were cold in winter and it helped to keep on working. We poured ice water on our heads at times and did the wet t-shirt look. Some of those were hot guys (you may now go there, Will).
Now I'm surrounded by people who go absolutely nuts when it's sunny and use an indoor full spectrum lamp. Or else I'll get down, I never believed in that stuff until it happened to me.
But hey, otherwise it would be the 'Evil Yellow Skyball!'

(47,675 posts)The pills are gross-tasting, but they help with calcium uptake. D's one of those things like B-12 that you really don't want to get low on.
