Anybody use an airfryer? Is it worth buying one
that is also an oven?
I keep looking but I don't know how much I would use it.

(13,925 posts)mini convection ovens is what they are. Much better to use in the summer than the regular oven.

(19 posts)but didn't like the results. My Sister has the same one as mine and has good luck with it. I only want it to cook fries and make something that looks like fried chicken. I guess I'm doing something wrong. I hope others will chime in.
I had the same experience. And like you I only wanted it for fries and such.

(12,600 posts)But calling things "fried" is a stretch. I make roasted potatoes that turn out great, but every time I've tried fries, they come out burnt.

(17,025 posts)I love it. It's a combination pressure cooker, steamer, air fryer, etc. I use the air fryer function a lot. I love the way it cooks onion rings, especially. Nice and crunchy, but not too dry. Instant Pots probably have an air fryer function too. There might be other brands who make them as well. I think I paid about $160 for mine, so they're kind of expensive, but you'll use it a lot.

(10,163 posts)It is more hot air movement than frying, so if you like things like baked fries instead of deep fried fries, then they are convenient and easy to clean but not terribly different than a range. HOWEVER...they are smaller, use less energy and don't heat the kitchen/house as much as an oven range can...
They are useful and I like ours, just not a wonder machine like I see some ads claim, more like a solid 7 out of 10 overall.

(38,266 posts)Not an oven type, but a basket type. I think the oven types are more expensive. If I had more counter space I would have bought an oven type. The unit I got has a pretty small foot print, so it's great for my kitchen & there are just two of us, so it works.
We don't have AC so running the oven for things like baked potatoes in the summer can really heat up the front of the house. The air fryer took 20 minutes off bake time for two medium sized potatoes & they were wonderful! Crispy outsides & tender, fluffy insides. (I pricked them with a fork & coated them with oil.) Also, it puts out very little heat compared to the oven. Cook time for most things is much shorter. My husband makes his tortilla wraps in the fryer, I heat up tacos and quiche, & it's perfect for frozen treats like poppers and tater tots. I'm thinking of making 7" pies this fall so I can bake them in the fryer instead of the oven.
For things that need oil, I splurged & bought a bottle of avocado oil. It's thicker & sticks better, if that makes sense. I also bought an oil mister, but save your moneya little silicone brush will work better.

I put off getting one for a while, wish I could have gotten it earlier. It is a basket one.

(1,027 posts)Im already thinking about getting a larger one. I use mine a couple of times a day sometimes. Shrimp, chicken, pork chops all came out well. Junk food? Fries, pizza, spring rolls. If/when you get one, make sure you get a sprayer or canned oil without propellants. It plays havoc on the lining.

(5,628 posts)Wore out the first. Chicken, pork roasts, French fries, wings.....just think of a food you want to cook and Google it with air fryer and you'll see many. Good luck. Get a larger one, my first was only good for two people

(10,297 posts)over cooking for my wife and me. Each day, I cook at least 2 meals for us. Air fried steaks with potatoes -- so good that we prefer to eat at home. The best chicken ever. The best veggies in the pressure cooker or steamed. Beans, rice, chilis. Our conventional stove probably will never be used again.
After a meal, I have to wash the big pot. But, the one, or two, or three racks I used go into the dish water. Easier clean-up than a conventional stove.
Got to go now. Time to cook.

You'll be better off shopping for those.

(12,288 posts)What do you like to eat for dinner? Do you use a deep fryer? Do you bake a lot of French fries, chicken strips or vegetables?
Its worth the cost and the space it will take up in your kitchen only if you use it.
While I like the idea of an air fryer, I decided to not get one because it wouldnt get much use based on the foods we eat.
