Leo needs $10,000 to fly 6,900 miles to Africa to live a cage free life!
5,451 Miles Have Been Funded! 1,449 More To Go!
(Progress bar updated M-F at 9am PST)

Meet Leo

Location: Lima, Peru
Favorite Activity: Playing with his exercise ball
Problem: Suffered from a life time of abuse as a circus lion
Solution: Fly him to Africa to live a free life
Leo was rescued by Animal Defenders International (ADI) from a circus in Peru where he had spent his entire life suffering. Police and local authorities helped save Leo and his three sons in a rescue led by ADI founders Jan Creamer and Tim Phillips.

Before his rescue, Leo seemed to have a broken spirit. He spent his days in a tiny cage suffering mentally and physically. He suffered from bad nutrition and a lack of veterinary care. Leo's teeth were smashed and broken, and his toes cut off to stop his claws from growing. He suffered from sores, and a cataract left him almost blind in one eye. The abuse was heart-wrenching. Since his rescue, Leo has been at the ADI's temporary rescue center in Peru. With ADI's excellent veterinary care Leo is now brighter and livelier than ever. Best of all, he has a chance to go home to Africa and live with his family.

ADI is dedicated to flying Leo and thirty-two other rescued lions to South Africa to live in peace and safety at Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary. ADI is working to book a specially chartered aircraft to take the lions to their new life. These lions who had never felt the sun on their backs or grass beneath their feet before ADI saved them from the circus in Peru and Columbia, now have a chance to retire in the African bush.

You can help! Leo needs to fly 6,900 miles to Africa! Just $7.25 helps fly Leo 5 miles of the trip.

*Any funds raised over the progress bar goal will go towards moving another of ADI's rescued lions as a grant to fund 1 of their 32 lions.

has anyone taken the time to show this animal how to survive in Africa. If not, he will die of starvation within a few weeks.
