Are there ANY egg brands that are humane? If not, what's a good alternative for baking a cake?
My husband's birthday is coming up this week and he loves peanut butter cake/cupcakes.
Any suggestions for alternatives to eggs?
Any recipe ideas?
Thanks in advance...

(23,738 posts)We're lucky here in Madison, in that the City allows keeping up to 5 chickens per household. I have so many friends that keep them, they're usually giving the extra eggs away.
There are a number of local egg producers around the county as well. They cost more, but the chickens are free-range. Most of the coop groceries and health food stores stock them.

(1,663 posts)It can be used as a substitute for eggs in many baked goods. Just do a search for "substituting applesauce for eggs" and you should find many recipes and advice on how to substitute. Good luck

(26,202 posts)you can mash up half a banana per egg, until it has the consistency of ... well.. snot - but it will flavor the cake, so I use this for carrot cakes, etc.
You can use Ener-G egg replacer for white/yellow cakes - won't add taste to more delicately flavored cakes.
Applesauce.

Our local produce stand may have some eggs this week; will check tomorrow or Tuesday when it's not supposed to rain.
Thank you very much for that website!

(49,212 posts)Humane eggs are not a thing. You can't skew an animal's reproductive cycles like that and call it humane. Even the best cared for laying hens are made malnourished and ill by the strain of making more than 20x more eggs than their cousins do in nature.

I rarely bake and my husband doesn't like eggs (though I looooove them; if I can find someone who has happy, well-cared for hens and some extra eggs, I'll happily buy them) so I really probably only need 2-3 for this one recipe.
