The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating after three people were killed in two separate vehicle-train collisions at the same high-speed rail crossing in Florida this week.

On Friday, two people were killed -- the driver and passenger -- after a Brightline train struck their Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck, Melbourne police said. ... Melbourne Mayor Paul Alfrey told reporters at the scene that the vehicle tried to outrun the train.

The deadly collision came two days after a Brightline train struck a Honda Element SUV at the same crossing. The driver was killed and three others injured, police said.

ABC Miami affiliate WPLG obtained surveillance footage of Wednesday's incident that was captured by a nearby business. The footage shows the SUV pass a waiting vehicle, then proceed past the crossing arm and flashing lights.

If they have so many trains going through it may be time to break those crossings. Hermit-The-Prog Jan 2024 #2

stopped when the crossing arms came down and not tried to play “Fast and Furious” with heavier fixed-guideway trains packing a lot more mass and inertia.
