Pa.'s first app-based, on-demand bus-ride service coming soon
Hopping on a bus to some parts of York County will soon be as easy as opening an app on your smartphone. Rabbittransit today announced The Hopper, a pilot program for on-demand transit, which will be unveiled Monday in areas of East York and Red Lion.
The new system will allow riders to request rides through an app, called Microtransit. Riders can download the app to their smartphones to hail rides in smaller, neighborhood-friendly sized public transit buses, or they can request rides by calling 1-800-632-9063.
In the program, ride reservations must be made on the same day and at least an hour in advance. Passengers are picked up and taken where they want to go within the designated zone, including connections to fixed routes. The app even alerts passengers when their ride is about to reach their desired destination.
Right now, the service is operating from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays in two zones - Red Lion/Windsor Commons and York Mall/East York. The cost per trip will start off at $2 as part of an introductory rate, soon increasing to $3.
