Peak Oil
Related: About this forumHas anybody in the "Drill, baby, DRILL!" crowd ever guaranteed that
any of the oil in the areas to be opened up for drilling, or any of the oil in the Canada-Gulf Of Mexico pipeline, would be used to lower the costs to the American consumers, in the form of lower gasoline prices, gasoline SOLD ONLY TO U.S. CITIZENS?

(18,219 posts)because it will not happen that way. They love to talk about drilling here to bring gas prices down and protect us from being beholden to the Middle East.
But what they don't say is that right now, with prices going crazy, we have to export gasoline because there is not enough consumption here----and that would continue to increase with increased production. There is nothing to stop the oil companies from selling on the "global market", and they will.
They don't say that we do not get much of the oil we use from the Middle East.
They don't say that the reason they want a pipeline that goes to the Gulf Coast is to access shipping----out of the country. If it were for use in this country, it would make more sense to fight for refineries to be built near the Canadian border instead of a pipeline to the Gulf.

(6,670 posts)Do you have any evidence that they care about anything else? As far as I can tell, the whole "drill" thing is a response to American environmentalism. They would otherwise prefer to have the mess, and attendant wars, in other countries, but the thrill of harming environmentalists is worth it.
