For My 60,000th Post: GOP Talking About How Much They're Talking About Climate (They Used To Not Talk About It!)

For the first time ever, climate change is being talked about in conjunction with the Republican National Convention. It's a conversation being driven by young voters demanding change from their representatives hoping for reelection.

And it's happening more on the fringes of the convention, not during prime time and not in the platform. At an event Tuesday evening that drew more than 100 (Ed. - Ooh!) to the Mitchell Park Domes, convention chairman Reince Priebus (Ed. - Double Ooh!) encouraged Republicans to start talking more about human-driven climate change. "I think it's very important for the party to have this conversation, to have this conversation with people that are taking an intelligent look at what we can be doing," Priebus said.

At one point, Curtis' district was one of the youngest in the nation, and talking about climate change was a requirement for those young voters. While he said it's hard to tell how much of his support was a direct result of his climate stance, it definitely had a big impact. "I've had town hall meetings where I can see the youth, can see their disappointment," he said. "And so I think it's fair to say it's influenced me."

Not surprisingly, Democrats remain critical of Republicans, saying conservative policies don't address fossil fuel use and the degradation of outdoor spaces. "I don't trust them on this. I think they're doubling down on oil production," said Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat. "They swore they would roll back all the progress we're making." Quentin Fulks, the principal deputy campaign manager for the Biden-Harris campaign, said talking about climate change at the convention doesn't mean Republicans will actually do anything.

Regardless of the results of the election. I truly believe that republicans in the senate and the house will be fine if trump loses. Then they’ll have four years of posturing and bitching which they do best. Dems take the house and the Senate and pubs in Washington will be on a four year just say NO cruise.

Of these people in the domes. Hope they didn't do any damage. It's just stupid for young Republicans to even think any of their pols would do anything about climate change except eliminate any regulations or laws we already have to deal with it as per their policy.
