Must be all that out-of-state fuel ( Bloomberg, Broad, etc.) they're using.
State Superintendent: Teacher due-process supporter, ex teacher Torkalson beats Vergara supporter Marshall Tuck, 53-47.
Poor Bloomberg. Not only can money not buy him love; it can't even buy him *misery*. ( i.e. for the rest of the world.)
Damn peasants.
>>>Torlakson Victorious in California Superintendent Race; NPE Endorsed Educators Win in Multiple Races Nationwide
Network for Public Education was proud to endorse Tom Torlakson in the California State Superintendent race, and were thrilled to report that Torlakson was victorious! Torlakson not only defeated Marshall Tuck, perhaps more importantly he defeated the BIG Outside Money that flooded into an independent expenditure group to support Tuck.
In all, over 30 million dollars was spent in the campaign, more than three times the amount spent in the California governors race!
Tuck, a former charter school and Wall Street executive, collected not only millions from supporters like Eli Broad, Michael Bloomberg, and a host of other corporate ed donors, he also won the endorsement of every major paper in the state.
The one thing Tuck was unable to garner was the majority of the votes in the race. Ultimately Torlakson, a former teacher, won 53% to 47%.
We knew it wouldnt be easy, Torlakson said in a statement. They were strong, but we were stronger. They were tough, but we were tougher. After all, were teachers we did our homework.
This years Vergara case was a central issue in the debate between the candidates, with Torlakson against the decision that declared the states teacher tenure law unconstitutional, and Tuck fully in support of the court ruling. In fact, the tens of millions of dollars that flowed into the race was likely an attempt by BIG Outside Money to se>>>>

By which I do NOT mean that all admins are evil doers. Just that there is a destructive ... and brutally ironic....dynamic at work here. If someone's miserable in the classroom, hates kids, hates teaching.... but likes the perks of, say, a 10 mos. calendar, what are his/her options?
That is correct.
And no one's figured out the answer to that one yet.
Hell, they're not even asking the question.
We've got a long way to go.

(14,255 posts)I find it fascinating that teachers are bad, but administrators are never the problem.

(14,498 posts)The admins are gonna do the actual *dirty* work. Are doing it already, as a matter of fact.
And remember: most ( I said MOST; I did not say ALL) admins are in *heaven* over corporate reform... and esp their role in it. They never... in their wildest dreams.... thought they could make 150k per year by going around and .... I don't know... counting the # of staples a teacher used on a bulletin board project to see if the teacher exceeded the recommended #. ( This actually happened to someone I know in NYC.)
One of the ( many ) problems I have w. the NY union is that that it insists on "solidarity" w. the administrators' union. That's complete bullshit, as far as I'm concerned. The administrators "union"... if it is a union at all... is a "union" of union-BUSTERS.
