Mayor de Blasio Thursday announced he was axing three planned charter schools operated by Success Academy.
The decision set up a showdown with the CEO of the charter school network, Eva Moskowitz.
She announced that classes were canceled Tuesday at her 22 schools and that hundreds of parents and students will be bused to Albany to protest the move.
De Blasio said hes reversing poor decisions made by his predecessor, Michael Bloomberg. Moskowitz said shed stage the largest civic field trip in history to decry the decision. The News presents two opposing viewpoints on the issue.

Here's what Danique Loving, one of her principals, writes in the article:
(Sorry, but her writing skills are so poor that this paragraph is actually painful to read.)
"We teach kids science five days a week, to love learning, to strive for excellence, to aim for college. And a good education keeps kids safe. One out of every four African-American boys who drops out of school ends up in jail. Thats what Mayor de Blasio would be focusing on if he were really worried about the safety of our students."
It is an oft-used tactic to tell one's adversary they are not addressing the "real problem." Then they cite a "real problem" that is beyond the scope of the mission.
If this is the best they can do from their 22 principals, they should send them all back to remedial English. Loving's first sentence is not parallel. It makes one wonder whether all the charter school does is teach science five days a week. What about English? What about history?
The sentence and the paragraph are a jumble of thoughts that do not belong together. She goes from what they teach to public safety to a statistic for which she fails to quote a source.
If that's the best Loving can do, she should get out of education. It is embarrassing to have someone who is a principal displaying such a poor level of skill.
This is what DeBlasio is up against in his quest to shut down charter schools: people who think nothing of using kids to further their own (economic) goals.
