Are you a BadAss Teacher?

Want to know how American teachers are feeling these days? Judging from the new BadAss Teachers page on Facebook, the answer is angry.

Started by three individuals who know each other only through Facebook, the BadAss Teachers page started at 4:45 pm on Friday, June 14. In an hour, BAT had 1,000 members and has been gaining about 1,000 members every day since then. At last count, more than 21,000 Facebookers were following the page. The activity has become so rapid that the site now has 49 administrators just to keep up with new requests to join the group.

And BadAss followers are not just following this page, they are posting like crazy. Hundreds and hundreds of angry, funny, and irreverent posts and responses every day. Barely anything else is getting through on my Facebook newsfeed!

The rapid success of BadAss Teachers is “a sign that the people on the ground are not happy,” said Fordham University professor Mark Naison, part of the trio that launched BadAss.

It's a good source for news and items you might not find elsewhere and a fun distraction, too!

I see they've added a page with links to a twitter account, facebook, etc.

Sweet!

PS, was just looking at the history test answers...

Eventually the Ramons conquered the Geeks. History calls people Romans because they never stayed in one place very long. At Roman banquets guests wear garlic in their hair. Julius Caesar extinguished himself on the battlefields of Gaul. The Ides of March murdered him because they thought he was going to be made king. Nero was a cruel tyranny who would torture his poor subjects by playing the fiddle for them.

We work pretty much 24/7 letting folks in. There's a minor admission process but if anyone here wants in, I'll approve you. I feel like I know all my DU teacher friends pretty well.

Just got a request from someone I think is a DUer.

It's becoming a great source. One month old tomorrow. They've also set up a community page.

And there's a website and an email list being set up.

I love seeing teachers wake up.

Hopefully, a number of admins will also be on board and offer some support and share horror stories of misspent funds, nepotism, you know what I mean.

We really are all in this together. BTW, I'm now both a former teacher and a former admin. I couldn't take it any longer- the first two years were terrific and then things soured. I can't lie or cheat or steal for any amount of pay and benefits.

But still very much engaged in education.
