Real education: Lowell School

'Fifth graders are examining the Constitution by investigating the voices that were present during the ratification process and those which were not. Students worked in small teams and acted as representatives of different constituencies at that time (such as the Iroquois, North Merchants, Indentured Servants, Plantation Owner, free African Americans, and the Enslaved). The 5th graders gathered information to learn about the different points of view surrounding the issue of slavery and the right to vote.

Once students polled other groups, they came back together to examine the varying points of view and compare them against those of the group they were representing. The next step is to apply what they discovered in crafting a persuasive argument advocating for their own group’s view on the issues. Each student group will share their statements in a Constitutional debate and compare the results of their vote to the events in Philadelphia in 1787.'

It's a wonderful idea but I don't see women in there as one of the unrepresented constituencies. hedda_foil Oct 2018 #1
