A self-described entrepreneur and sociologist has teamed up with a homeless man in San Francisco to use technology to combat what they describe as a tech-based lack of compassion.
People are losing their social skills, Adam Reichart says in a video showing him attempting to get donations from passers-by on the streets. And when they lose their social skills, Im seeing that theyre losing their compassion and their empathy, and the reality of everyday life. Most people in the United States, I think, are under the illusion that everythings fine.
Reichart, who has reportedly been homeless for the past 30 years, is listed as a creative producer on Homeless GoPro, which was developed by Kevin F. Adler. The video is shot from his point of view on a donated GoPro camera strapped to his chest.
Adler wrote on the projects website that he got the idea based on his experiences with his uncle, who was also homeless for three decades until his death at the age of 50. The project reportedly aims to provide more homeless residents with cameras and allow them, like Reichart, to demonstrate what the citys 6,500 or so people living on the streets face.

OP
The article says he's "attempting to get donations", when in fact he's begging.

What does he expect?

(34,825 posts)2. a little fucking sympathy, perhaps?

(521 posts)3. Oh dear...there's no need to be so worked up.
This subject can be discussed in a calm and rational manner.
As for sympathy...I'm afraid the argument, "You have money and I don't, so please give me some of it" isn't a very persuasive one to most people, so he shouldn't be surprised that most people dismiss it (and him) and simply go about their business.

(34,825 posts)4. homeless people beg, while politicians solicit donations..
kinda like how white people forage, while black people loot.

(521 posts)5. I don't find someone saying, "you have money(and so do I) so give me some it so I can run your life"
particularly persuasive, either.
