Labor board rules Starbucks broke laws at former Capitol Hill store
Starbucks Corp. (SBUX: Nasdaq) has lost another legal dispute over its response to unionization efforts at its stores.
Last week, the National Labor Relations Board ruled the Seattle coffee giant broke federal labor laws when it allegedly prevented employees at a former Capitol Hill store from engaging in union activities during breaks and forced a barista to cover a shift ahead of testifying at an NLRB hearing.
The ruling joins dozens of others by the federal agency against Starbucks over charges of illegal firings, failure to bargain and withholding of benefits from union baristas.
“We disagree with Board decision issued ... and are exploring opportunities for further legal review," a Starbucks spokesperson said in a statement.
