The Omaha Public Schools and the Omaha Education Association have agreed on a new employment contract that will make substantial changes to teacher salaries.

During Wednesday’s meeting, the OPS board unanimously approved the agreement, which will cover the 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.

The district’s base salary will rise nearly $7,200 over the next three years to compensate teachers for the heavy burden of work they are currently experiencing, union officials said.

“This is a significant shift to the salary schedule,” said Molly Davies, chief negotiator for the Omaha Education Association.

What is the starting salary with a B.A. and what is the top step after 20 years?


When I retired in 2006, my salary was 92K. That was with only a B.A. - New Jersey.

5. In Wisconsin our teachers unions are decimated.

Their raises are all they get. CPI chained. They rarely get more than a few hundred dollars.

6. N.J. has a powerful state teachers' union. State salaries are above state averages.

But

Our increase came after a 3 day strike.

Administration press release (First Day): "We can handle this with substitutes."

Second day, kids began acting out. Bored. No teaching going on.

Third day. Kids began throwing books and desktop computers out of second and third floor windows.

Day 4. Strike over, 32% increase over 3 years ratified.

2. Congrats to the union negotiators!

This is an amazing, but well deserved, raise in base pay. This will help all teachers, not just newly hired teachers because it affects all teachers on the salary schedule.
