More Starbucks workers in NY vote to join union as Howard Schultz returns to CEO post

Workers at six additional Starbucks coffee stops in Upstate New York have decided to unionize after ballot counting over the past two days affirmed a pro-union vote with results from another union vote in Kansas still outstanding, the Washington Post reported Friday.

The move by the workers to join the union came during the same week that longtime leader Howard Schultz returned to the CEO role after former President and CEO Kevin Johnson retired.

The Post's online edition reported that Workers United, a labor union affiliated with the Service Employees International Union, revealed Thursday that two stores in Rochester and another in Buffalo had voted to join the union.

The National Labor Relations Board said Friday that workers at three more Starbucks locations in Ithaca, N.Y., voted overwhelmingly to form a union, bringing the number of unionized company-owned stores to 16 out of almost 9,000.
