UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending May 27, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 232,000, an increase of 2,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 229,000 to 230,000. The 4-week moving average was 229,500, a decrease of 2,500 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 231,750 to 232,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2 percent for the week ending May 20, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending May 20 was 1,795,000, an increase of 6,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised down by 5,000 from 1,794,000 to 1,789,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,797,500, a decrease of 1,500 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised down by 1,250 from 1,800,250 to 1,799,000.

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 207,941 in the week ending May 27, an increase of 5,296 (or 2.6 percent) from the previous week. The seasonal factors had expected an increase of 3,450 (or 1.7 percent) from the previous week. There were 183,446 initial claims in the comparable week in 2022.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.1 percent during the week ending May 20, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted level of insured unemployment in state programs totaled 1,610,058, a decrease of 2,086 (or -0.1 percent) from the preceding week. The seasonal factors had expected a decrease of 7,157 (or -0.4 percent) from the previous week. A year earlier the rate was 0.9 percent and the volume was 1,256,209.

The total number of continued weeks claimed for benefits in all programs for the week ending May 13 was 1,636,717, a decrease of 1,253 from the previous week. There were 1,318,964 weekly claims filed for benefits in all programs in the comparable week in 2022.
