Quote for the Day:
Once upon a time, even as recently as a century ago, Americans talked about America in positive terms. True enough, their conception of Utopia was cramped and confined within existing axioms and ideas, but their attitude was at least creative within those limits. Even in their negative moments, as when Thomas Jefferson could say no more for America than that it was the "last best hope" of the world, or when they admitted their shortcomings and criticized their mistakes, they were guided by a vision of a significantly better society.

(46,984 posts)One of the leading revisionist historians of the period. I think I read one of his books. 'America in a Revolutionary World' or something like that.
Stock market is in a sick consolidation. We could be here awhile. Like weeks, then trend higher or lower and reverse, and be back here in 6 months and stay longer. People have forgotten how grinding a decade of bearish market can be.

(18,054 posts)Everything comes from my own personal collection, and I have a lot of, ahem, weird stuff. I try to find something each day that relates to the current markets or current politics or economics in general, but every once in a while something catches my eye just for the heck of it.
The Great Evasion is Williams' re-examination/re-evaluation of Marx, in an era when such a re-examination was undoubtedly highly controversial. Perhaps it still is.
