The Biden administration sees a bright future for telework in the federal workforce, after many agencies sent employees home in the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The administrations top personnel and management officials told the government operations subcommittee of the House Oversight and Reform Committee that telework has increased employee engagement and made the federal government more appealing for prospective hires.
Office of Personnel Management Director Kiran Ahuja said many federal employees now expect the work-life flexibility that telework allows, and that agency workers are leaving agencies that are enforcing strict office reentry policies if not leaving government altogether.
What we are seeing is agency-hopping, based on where employees see the level of flexibility. We dont have agencies having to compete with each other for different employees within the federal government, Ahuja said Thursday.
