• All eyes will be on the Federal Reserve this week as it makes another decision concerning rate hikes during its monthly FOMC meeting.

• The impact of rising mortgage rates and what’s going on in the real estate market will also be in focus.

Inflation is soaring, unemployment remains low by historical standards and the Federal Reserve is raising interest rates in an attempt to cool down the economy. The central bank’s latest policy move will be revealed this week when the Fed holds its Federal Open Market Committee meeting. Investors are anticipating the Fed will enact another rate hike of 75-basis-points or higher, which will impact the stock market.

Investors will also look for more insight into how the housing market is faring amid rising mortgage rates, as new residential sales for June are slated for release this week. Rounding out the key economic news are factory orders for June, weekly jobless claims and the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index for June. Zooming out, investors should be able to gain a clearer idea of what is happening to the U.S. economy amid record high inflation.
