(7,362 posts)At Wed Apr 17, 2013, 08:21 PM an alert was sent on the following post:
Wait until you hear the sound
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1114&pid=8007
REASON FOR ALERT:
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)
ALERTER'S COMMENTS:
Pure shit stirring. This post proves the only reason he posted this is to take yet another shot at the group he is so obsessed with.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/125520714
You'd think he'd lay off making a joke out of certain subjects at least huh? Well you'd be wrong. And this guy is a host of the men's group. Shameful.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed Apr 17, 2013, 08:28 PM, and the Jury voted 0-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: OK, so why can one group post a picture of what does/doesn't cause rape but when another group does it it's making a joke. The picture is accurate btw. Also I don't understand why this comment was alerted on and not the OP. There's nothing wrong with the comment that has been alerted on. leave it.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: The group in question was never even mentioned in the post, you can interpret it how you want but I don't see how it breaks any rules.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No idea what OP is talking about. The post doesn't violate any standards.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: huh? this is a completely stupid and frivolous alert
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(80,708 posts)When you can't get even one of those 6 people to vote against a loathsome ****** such as myself, well, that's a weak alert, right there.
What gets me- what galls me- is the blatant disingeunuousness of the alerts, and the hyperbole around stuff like this thread.
It is spun as "mocking rape", when it is doing no such thing.
What it's mocking is the persistent attempts on the part of certain people to argue- in the face of zero evidence or even contradictory evidence- that things like porn, or dongle jokes, or draino commercials with sexy innuendo somehow have something to do with rape.
Continually making these arguments- essentially, trying to attach unrelated cultural complaints to the very real problem of rape- that trivializes the seriousness of rape IMHO.
Rapists cause rape, and that's where the blame for rape ought to lie. We should all be able to agree on that.

Porn (that I've seen) doesn't promote abusiveness.
lumberjack_jeff
(33,224 posts)A broken heart will not compel an otherwise adequately socialized person to rape.
A person capable of raping is likely incapable of sustaining a healthy relationship with women.
The bad relationships may be used as a rationalization but it isn't the cause.
pacalo
(24,738 posts)I meant "bad relationships" in the sense of abusive relationships (with women who have been neglectful, extremely overbearing, emotional/physical harm, etc., toward the man), which seems to be in line with what you said here:
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)And people who commit violent crimes- rape, obviously, included- fall under that category IMHO.
There are probably a wide variety of opinions on what may or may not cause people to get or be that way... I think some people are just screwed up right out of the box. But at the end of the day, the responsibility for the actions need to lie with the individual.
pacalo
(24,738 posts)lumberjack_jeff
(33,224 posts)But I don't think that bad adult relationships often cause an otherwise emotionally and morally healthy person to become a rapist.
I think it's a cause and effect thing. A person capable of raping will probably have a difficult time with relationships, but I strongly doubt that the failed relationship caused him to become a criminal.
pacalo
(24,738 posts)& when his inner rage compels him, he carries out his evil in a way that will cause the highest indignity to his victim. What is the cause of his inner rage, is the question that's difficult to understand.

(80,708 posts)That seems to be the common thread.

(5,909 posts)We weren't living here at the time. I guess one could possibly assume that someone's hatred of porn (which could have stemmed from religion being in the south or who the hell knows...there's all kinds of "explanations" as we all know) resorted to a violent act...actually attempted murder.
I read his autobiography...it was really good. He loved his wife Althea so much.
They never caught the shooter.

(80,708 posts)That pissed off some knuckle dragging racist.
I dont think everything the guy has ever said or published is wonderful, but I do tend to fall on the side of free speech.
And say what you will about the dude, he is a fighter. And yes, by all accounts he loved his wife very much. Im not usually much of a Courtney Love fan (she said something snarky about Jerry after he died, for which some of us still hold a grudge) but her portrayal of Althea was great in that film.

We saw the movie opening weekend. I thought she was mediocre, but Woody was awesome. Great movie.

(80,708 posts)This is not "mocking" the other thread or graphic, it is echoing it.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/125520714
FWIW, I agree 100% with the content of the other graphic.
If someone disagrees with the point made in this graphic, please, rather than complaining about the thread or hitting the alert button, let's hear why.
Upton
(9,709 posts)Can't have that, and don't expect a discussion...it's so much easier to just hit the alert button on that evil Warren and the Mens Group..

(80,708 posts)...especially when it points out a glaring philosophical inconsistency or giant silly flaw in their arguments.
Same thing happened when some here started mentioning the inconsistency in defending the "agency" of women to wear Hajibs from people who are totally allergic to the concept of, say, porn stars or hooters waitresses having their own "agency" to decide what to wear, or not.
The other standard non-responses are to immediately begin complaining about "attacks" or "mocking"... anything, really, except addressing the actual point in the actual message.
