Men's Group
Related: About this forumData collected on pornstars.
They finally have enough data to draw valid statistics:
Here are the most interesting ones to me:
-The industry is larger than I thought in terms of workforce. The Adult Film Database has a record of 115,000 porn performers and directors and 125,000 movie titles. That's about 6 times larger than I would have predicted.
-Pornstars are considerably lighter than the general population: male pornstars average 17 pounds and female ones average 48 pounds (!) lighter than the average population.
-They start in the industry older on average than you might think: females at 22, males at 24.
-About pornstars being encouraged to do anal: 62% of female pornstars do anal at least once in their careers. In other words, it's far from certain. They have the choice.
-The females are not, as the stereotype would have it, blonde and busty. Most prevalent hair color was brown, and the average bra size was 34B.

Sites treat it as a category of porn, unfortunately. This chart translates those categories into "sex acts" and under that term, interracial doesn't fit.
That's not what gets to me about it. Frankly, it's distressing to me that fewer performers are willing do it than do anal sex.

(39 posts)and rather blew the top of my perception of the industry.
i hope the other side doesn't see this, aside from shattering their myths as well, I hate to see this informative infographic go down because some hater succeeded in getting it banned.
that said.. wow.
I would point out a few other unknown facts about the porn industry.
they are on the BLEEDING EDGE of technology. web sites, security, video tech, all of it is bleeding edge in general. I'm not saying there aren't a ton of low-rent places, im saying in general if you want to see a new technology being put to use, it's probably happening in porn somewhere.
When was the last time you heard about a porn site being successfully hacked?
Porn was first to adopt VHS, LD, VHS, HD-DVD, and would have had Blu-Ray except literally Sony said NO until their patent protection ran out.
Porn was the first on the internet and we can THANK PORN FOR THAT, because they also set up many of the business and register models that we all use today.
Porn has been around in ALL societies, patriarchal and matriarchal, in one for or another since the beginning of time. it has always been an inspiration to artists (who want to get laid, and well done porn does that, if not pay the rent) and is a integral part of what it is to be human.
there are many things about being human that one can argue are bad. But it makes it no less part of all of us. Once we all come to grips with the good and "bad" parts I think the world for all sides will becomes a much better place.
example... japan.

(7,237 posts)Odd how they use the euphemism "slept with" though, when talking matter-of-factly about anal sex and double penetration in the same graphic.
"Tom Byron has slept... with"
"Nina Hartley has slept with"
I am unaware of having seen any of their work but I have seen plenty of porn and I am thinking people are not paying money to watch them sleep.

(5,763 posts). . . "copulated in some variant with." Or perhaps "exchanged orgasms, simulated or real with . . ."
It feels ridiculous when I write that though even if the euphemism "slept with" is never so misapplied as it is porn.

(80,708 posts)but you're probably right. It's a silly euphemism, particularly here.

Behind the Aegis
(54,840 posts)I checked out the site and it does have exclusively gay male stars (I didn't find any lesbians), but were they included in any of these numbers, especially the number of porn stars?

(5,763 posts). . . that will be dealt with by curious people who also mine the the database.
