Poll on D. Tosh's rape comments.

Here, for the uninformed, is the background:

On Friday night, during his set at the Laugh Factory, the hugely popular Comedy Central host Daniel Tosh made a rape joke, stripping the experience of its weight, of its tragedy, of its crime: “Wouldn’t it be funny if that girl [referring to an audience member who “heckled” him about rape jokes not being funny earlier in his set] got raped by, like, five guys right now? Like right now?”

Tosh asked the audience for a topic, someone yelled out "rape", and before Tosh could say anything, a woman said "there's nothing funny about rape," and Tosh then said it would be funny if the audience raped that woman.

but as a point of principle i am against censoring comedy, though the audience should feel free to react appropriately.

No cable channel, for instance, is under obligation to give this guy airtime if a lot of people are offended by his comments. Doesn't mean he doesn't have the 1st Amendment right to make them.

lots of offensive material said by comics, as i said i think thsi was bad but i think that comedy should be at the cutting edge and force us to face the not so nice side of life.

The topics in GD weren't all that descriptive in their titles and since I didn't know who he was, I didn't even open the threads, so I was really behind the curve.

I like Louis Black, Chris Rock, Lisa Lampinelli, Margaret Cho, Wanda Skyes, the late George Carlin, and a few others. Some of the newer comedians kinda suck. I stick with what I know unless I accidentally stumble across someone new. (I do like Louis C.K, too!)

Louie.

Pretty funny but avoid if you're already feeling depressed. Watching it might make you suicidal.

Very bleak humor.

rape jokes. I shit you not.

This article has several examples of funny rape jokes, where the joke is where it should be: not on the victims. Richard Pryor's joke isn't there, but it's in the comments.

Just saw this as I was driving by ... I've been following the Internet mud fight since the story broke. I'll be going now

I don't like Tosh because he's a sucky comedian. I don't care what he jokes about because he's not funny.

For me, everything is on the table in comedy. The holocaust, race, sex, whatever. Just be funny when you do it.

Sometimes it's kind of funny, sometimes not. His 'thing' is double entendre insults.

This is way, way, way past his usual. What he said was horrible, and I also think that an audience member hollering out 'rape' is just as big as jackass.

I understand he's on HBO which we don't even get because our DirecTV bill is already high enough. I don't watch Comedy Central, which is currently blocked anyway because of that beef with Viacom...but none of that matters, least not to one particular disruptor, as he seems to think the MG is somehow responsible for everything that comes out of Tosh's mouth..

Indefensible really. Tosh should have apologized with zero qualifications.
