If these women feel that "Feminism" is a toxic culture that judges them (I would even say some feel "slut-shamed" and is unnecessarily divisive and harsh, you would certainly be correct in saying they are mistaken and don't understand Feminism as a concept, but they are picking up SOMETHING and their reactions should not be dismissed without trying to understand them. You could also conclude that the obnoxious tone of some people on message boards and social media has drowned out the important message of equality that Feminism is supposed to be about. You could conclude that the toxic style of some people is causing this backlash by young women and no, it is probably not entirely the fault of "anti-Feminists" or MRAs.
There are lessons to be learned surely about how to get a message out there without alienating people who should be (and are in fact) allies.

(36,911 posts)If you look at men who are anti-feminist it's pretty easy to say that their motivation comes from misogyny and in many if not most cases it undoubtedly does. It's a bit harder to pin that label on women who are anti-feminist. The vitriol that these women are facing is very telling. It's as if feminists are telling them because they are women and they are rejecting the message that feminism projects, they must be siding with the enemy. It's not that much different than the Bush style dichotomous thinking that you're either with us or against us.

(80,708 posts)I disagree, strongly, with their interpretation of what the word "Feminism" means, but it is clearly subjective AND vigorously debated even among the people who self-apply that label.
It's worth considering what someone's opinion of the word "Christian" might mean, if their only encounters with people using that label on themselves were folks of a certain sect, strain, or denomination.

(8,692 posts)When I was in university the "activist" feminists always seemed infinitely more interested in attacking other women than anyone or anything else. And it turns out that many women react negatively when they're compared to prostitutes.

(8,692 posts)These ladies were on a crusade against sodomy (very specifically oral sex), they were absolutely fixated on it. Their argument was that any woman who participated in such acts with a man was merely an unpaid prostitute and damaged the standing of all women in the world.

It is true that women are still not getting equal rights in many areas but sometimes extremes like (male right groups, women against feminism) may reject it. Equally, Extreme feminist always blew up the magnitude of the women inequality.
At-least now there is equality on both extreme sides.
