But as we are constantly reminded, men should just shut the fuck up about their problems because feminism is going to fix all of them for us. I'm sure they'll get around to it sooner or later.

I guess that's kind of the point of a "uniform". Not really people, just implements.

When you get two groups of men hacking each other into hamburger, at some point their faith in the afterlife is going to fail and the entire mechanism breaks down. Programing all of the parts to think they are one machine instead of individuals makes them more efficient and reduces the incidence of breakdown. However, naturally after a few uses you have to repair it with spare parts or simply replace it and send it in for overhaul.

I'm really impressed that you'd post here and make such a realistic point. I'm an idiot, but even morons appreciate honest comments.

Until then, no. Don't confuse depersonalization with objectification.

In social philosophy, objectification means treating a person as a thing, without regard to their dignity.

According to the philosopher Martha Nussbaum, a person is objectified if they are treated:[1]

as a tool for another's purposes (instrumentality);
as if lacking in agency or self-determination (denial of autonomy, inertness);
as if owned by another (ownership);
as if interchangeable (fungibility);
as if permissible to damage or destroy (violability);
as if there is no need for concern for their feelings and experiences (denial of subjectivity).

Also worth noting is the difference between a soldier and a SI swimsuit model is about 3-4 decimal places. For that kind of cabbage you can name the time and place and I'll even provide my own g-string.

Objectification is not always sexual in nature.

Soldiers are reduced to being tools of warfare, with no individual identity, and being pure cannon fodder. They are numbers on a page. Statistics. Not people.

I am not a veteran but come from a long line of those who served. It is only by the grace of providence that I am even here today to type this response (as all my ancestors came through the wars mostly unharmed). I recognize this nearly every day and am amazed that I am here, and so sad when I think about all the people who aren't here because the man standing next to my great great grandpa died in the Wheatfield at Gettysburg, or the man who went through basic training with my Grandpa got blown up in the South Pacific in WWII.

I see this as equally awful, and in some ways worse, than sexual objectification of females.*

I also think it is wholly wrong that we almost exclusively only do this to men.

It hurts my heart.

*I am a female bodied person, and have experienced that kind of objectification first hand and also dislike that immensely.

I don't know about other services. In a company formation 200 men in a well lit area.

Marines would expose their penis for inspection to a corpsman (medic) for a venereal disease check. Failure to comply is brig time (jail).

Mostly done post combat or after overseas deployments, but before returning state side.

As far as body parts go, well, I'll leave that one alone, unless you're really interested.
