1. Agreed. It is a stupid remark and meant to denigrate.

It is the kissing cousin of "Man up!" which seems to be quite popular among a certain group of people. Being gay, I really find comments like those to be anti-male and heterosexist.

It is the equivalent to saying that women "screech" or "bitch" or are "hysterical".
