1. To which I would ask,

If states in Germany used a swastika and said, "Heritage, not hate", what would people say?

For an African America, the Bars and Stars is not a heritage symbol!

"Heritage Not Hate."

"FKYALL."

"I'm Proud of My Eagle Scouts."

And THE STATE issued that custom license plate!

It is truly insane.

6. I all but lived there while my late wife was taking care of her ill mom and dad for several years.

I liked Huntsville -- actually "lived" in Meridianville and Hazel Green -- because is was pretty and the drive through Tennessee to Nashville was great. Got married in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Monte Sano Mountain was a great place to hike.

There were some nice, intelligent people there because of the technology. But, there were more than enough like the loser in the OP.

If you want to play in this political sandbox, 'bicoastal progressive, liberal ideology' just won't fly.

Most local pundits all agree any kind of resurgence of the Democratic Party down here is about a generation away now.

There really is a Democratic underground!

8. And why did it become the most liberal city in the state?

Because after WW2 that's where they sent all the Nazi rocket scientists. And in Alabama they were the biggest liberals...

What is “the big lie” of the Democratic Party? That conservatives—and President Donald Trump in particular—are fascists. Nazis, even. In a typical comment, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow says the Trump era is reminiscent of “what it was like when Hitler first became chancellor.”

But in fact, this audacious lie is a complete inversion of the truth. Yes, there is a fascist threat in America—but that threat is from the Left and the Democratic Party. The Democratic left has an ideology virtually identical with fascism and routinely borrows tactics of intimidation and political terror from the Nazi Brownshirts.

10. First, I think it has higher education levels. There are still George Wallace Democrats (Dixiecrats)

who continued to vote for Democrats when the majority of Dixiecrats became GOPers after the Civil Rights Act.

My in-laws, while they were alive, loved George Wallace. But, they also loved Bill Clinton.

My father-in-law who was very sick in 2000, voted for Al Gore. In fact, when he was being assessed for neurological issues including dementia, he freaked out the Neurology Department at the hospital when they asked him who was President. He didn't say george bush, he said "Al Gore, by God." The neurologist had this funny look and I had to tell the doc that response is not dementia, it's just the way he is. They would have voted for Obama too. In fact, my late wife did and campaigned for him too. Point is, they are complicated people.
