Precinct-level Politics
Related: About this forumI worked Precinct Politics. went door to door..a long time ago..
For Humphrey and McGovern. I have talked to many who have done this within the last few years. Guess what? It is still the way that elections are won and lost...It is very hard work, but if enough is done, and the candidate is worthy, it often makes the difference.

(38,726 posts)made the difference in the election of JFK. Illinois was won by under 10,000 votes if I recall, and Chicago was won by several hundred thousand. Illinois was the key state in Kennedy's election. Makes a big difference when enough of this kind of work is done.

(31,463 posts)I went to my fiftieth class reunion last fall. One of the women there remembered me coming to her door when I was about twenty. She asked me if I remembered why I had knocked on her family's door. I told her I had been canvassing for a local candidate. I told her that I was still doing that, and I would be doing that until my legs gave out. Then I would get on the phone.
I told her I was pleased that she remembered by visit.

(38,726 posts)I think what you said, has motivated me to work in some upcoming election..something at the level we are talking about..I guess, I am out of touch with that level. Yes, I send some money, but I know that help is always needed at the precinct level. Even if it addressing envelops, or making a few calls. This is something for me to consider.

(21,615 posts)We had 3 elections here in Georgia: the November 2020 general election, a December 2020 local special election runoff, and the January 2021 statewide special election runoff l.
I went out on the doors for my local state house & DA candidates in October and November 2020 in advance of the November 2020 general election and the December 2020 special election runoff for DA in my community. Our Democratic DA candidate won! Deborah Gonzalez is the first Hispanic woman DA in Georgia! This was an historic win!
During January 2021, I canvassed door to door for Senator Warnock, Senator Ossoff, and Public Service Commission candidate Daniel Blackman, who was a fantastic African American candidate who lost to longtime Republican PSC member and former Democrat, Lauren Bubba McDonald.
minivan8 was super easy to use. I installed the app on my phone. I trained in the field the first time I used it, then I was off on my own!
