A couple of reactions:
1. 60% voting rate in a crucial Presidential election? Only 60% of our registered voters can rouse themselves to vote, even once every 4 years? SHAME on us.
2. I agree with the African-American guy in Cleveland who wondered why, with people losing jobs, and more, the vote in Ohio was even close. Yes, I do believe that the 2004 election was stolen, as it was in 2000. But, the thing is, as the Cleveland guy said, the vote shouldn't even have been close enough for anyone to be able to fiddle with the results!!
A colleague of mine from Brazil asked me, "Why TWICE?" That is a question I ask myself often.
3. I also agree with the guy in Nova Scotia (or was it Alberta), who said, "Personally , I think he's a clown". Indeed he was and is. It was painful for me even to watch him. I am embarrassed for our country that half of us (OK, 30% of us, since 40% didn't bother to vote) voted for this intellectual and emotional midget.
. . As a woman in Paris said (or I think she said: my French is pretty rusty), "Americans are idiots". Perhaps a more accurate description (since 9/11 played a large part in the 2004 election), Americans have been fearful idiots.
4. I just barely caught the bit about Clinton (as I said, my French is rusty), so thanks for the heads-up. By the way, I agree!!
To say the least, this was not a shining moment in American history.
Sigh.
