BOSTON The nations top education official plans to meet with local college students during a visit to Boston. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Sen. John Kerry are scheduled for a town hall-style meeting Monday at Emerson College with students from Emerson and several other universities.
Among the issues expected to be discussed are college affordability and workforce preparation. Duncan is also expected to meet separately with some local college presidents.
Earlier Monday, Duncan and state Education Commissioner Mitchell Chester are scheduled to host a workshop examining new teacher evaluation guidelines that were approved as part of Massachusetts application for federal Race to the Top funding.
The state is scheduled to begin implementing those guidelines in September.
Hopefully, they will talk about tuition costs, as they are becoming prohibitive for many, particularly private schools. My youngest was admitted in a private college (not even a well-known one), and the tuition/housing is above 50 K a year, so it is doubtful he will be able to attend this one.
On an interesting note, capitalization rules make the title misleading. They are not meeting BC students. They are meeting Boston college students, as the Globe correctly posted
