JK Group Music Friday

Okay, how about something completely different. When I think of JK I think of someone who seeks peace in the world and relishes doing diplomatic work wherever he is needed (just like his father). He also has always loved music, and enjoys playing guitar.

So I thought it would be fun to share some music from time to time, since music tends to bring people together.

So, meet Michael Kiwanuka an artist who is just now breaking in Britain. Here is his story:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/worldfolkandjazz/8995505/Michael-Kiwanuka-a-Bill-Withers-for-2012.html

"His parents came to London from Uganda in the Seventies, fleeing the regime of Idi Amin. They married and settled in white, middle-class Muswell Hill, where his dad worked as an electronics engineer. “I had a lovely time growing up,” says Kiwanuka."

He ended up having a teacher in school who encouraged him to pursue his passion in music. But it was a tough slog for a long time, like playing to empty pubs or to an uninterested audience. Alas, this past year he started to get noticed, and just topped the BBC's Sound of 2012 list.

"Michael Kiwanuka can’t stop smiling. “It’s all come as a bit of a shock,” says the 24 year-old singer, laughing at the surreal forces that have transported him from the humiliation of indifferent audiences at dodgy pub gigs to being hailed as one of the bright hopes of the new year. “I don’t quite know how it’s happened – but I’m enjoying it.”"

Here is the first song I heard from him, and immediate loved, "I'm Getting Ready":

And this video is fun, because it is filmed to look like it is 1971, but was from 2011. "Tell Me a Tale"

I really think everyone here will dig this music, so give it a listen!
