John Kerry
Related: About this forumThis makes me feel better!
As most regular posters to this forum know, I'm hoping JK will choose to stay in the Senate to continue his important work there. I regard him as the Senate's great hope, even a great hope for our country, and I pray that he will continue his lifelong fight for the environment, for foreign relations, for veterans, for small businesses, for infrastructure, for a brighter future for America in Congress where he has the greatest influence he could have outside of the Presidency.
But I have been distressed and depressed by the non-stop furor all over the media and including DU about the possibility that he might be tapped for SoS (I'm not even granting credence to the SoD rumor!) Whether he wants SoS, whether he should have the job because he's (undeniably!) earned it, whether Obama is considering him -- all of these questions and no real answers are driving me nuts!
In the midst of all this, JK has come through, as always, and the email I got from John Kerry for Senate today comforts me no end. This is the John Kerry I respect and count on:
Just a short note this holiday season, not about an election or politics, important as those two things are, but about two people from Massachusetts whom I've gotten to know on a really personal level -- Len and Cherylann Gengel.
More than two years ago, Len and Cherylann endured the heartbreak every parent fears above all else -- the death of their daughter, Britney, in the earthquake in Haiti. As a Dad and a grandfather, it's a horror and a grief I can't even contemplate. But the Gengel Family has summoned the strength we all wish we could find in ourselves, and they've spent their energy and time honoring Britney's memory and honoring her dreams by founding the "Be Like Brit" orphanage in Haiti - a place that, like Britney - will be filled with life and hope.
Now they're sharing their experience and contributing to the cause that animates them in a very personal book, a story of sadness, inspiration and the promise of a young woman's ideals now realized -- they've named the book -- fittingly -- "Heartache and Hope in Haiti".
I just hope you'll read it. In a complicated and sometimes confusing world, it puts a lot of things into perspective. This holiday season, please pre-order "Heartache and Hope in Haiti", your purchase will help the Gengel Family carry on the beautiful work they are doing to honor the legacy of their beloved Britney. Believe me -- if you're not inspired by their strength, you're incapable of inspiration.
And no matter what holiday you celebrate this time of year -- it captures the true spirit of a season that's all about family and love.
Please pre-order your copy today -- 100% of the proceeds benefit the Be Like Brit orphanage in Haiti. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution directly to the Be Like Brit Foundation, please CLICK HERE.
Best wishes to you and your family this holiday season.
