Panama is reeling under a nationwide blackout after a major explosion and subsequent fire at the La Chorrera Thermoelectric Power Plant. The incident not only plunged the country into darkness but also cut off water services.

Authorities suspect a "technical fault" in one of the plant's generators caused the mishap. Firefighters are working to douse the blaze even as officials assured gradual restoration of power in hours.

Government response

President Mulino assures gradual restoration of power

Panama's President Jose Raul Mulino has taken to social media to speak about the incident. He said, "The Director of ETESA informs me that the damage was caused by a private power generator that triggered the system's protection."
Mulino assured citizens that services would be gradually restored and urged them to remain calm during this crisis.

Water crisis

Blackout disrupts water supply nationwide

The blackout has also hit water services across Panama since water treatment plants and wells depend on the electrical system. The supply of drinking water has been suspended till power is fully restored.

I would not put this beyond the thinking of the cabal that now is in charge of our government.
