Steam and gas incandescence from Villarrica volcano last night (image: POVI)

The activity of the volcano continues at stable levels.

The latest images from local observers depict beautiful night-time glowing steam and gas emissions confirming active small lava ponds within the summit crater characterized by a delicate equilibrium between incoming and consumption of magma and even passive emissions of ash. The thermal anomaly in the inner summit vent is identified in the latest Sentinel-2 satellite image.
